The majestic white building of Agra called Taj Mahal is well known as one of the Seven Wonders of the World. This marble mausoleum is located on the bank of River Yamuna in Agra. Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in order to house his favorite wife’s tomb built this amazing structure.
Mumtaz Mahal was a Persian princess and her name was Arjumand Banu Begum before marriage, who became the third and most favorite wife of Shah Jahan. The queen died while giving birth to their 14th child. Therefore, Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in the memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz constructed this marvelous structure and tried to make his love immortal.Taj Mahal enrolled its name in the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites in 1983 as it represents the rich Mughal culture and immense architectural beauty. It is famous worldwide as a symbol of love. This wonderful monument changes various shades with the changing time of the day. In the morning, when the sun rises it looks pinkish, it turns milky- white in the evening and it becomes golden in moonlight. The Taj Mahal attracts around 3 million visitors every year. It opens early in the morning during sunrise and closes with sunset.
Entry Fee:
- Rs.750/- for Foreign Tourists
- Rs.20/- for Indians
- No entry fee is charged from children below 15 years of age whether Indian or foreigner
Note :- Friday is a closed day for visitors.
